Arkansas Roadside Attractions: Inspiration Point

Have you ever been to Arkansas? It’s doesn’t seem to be a top travel destination for most, but it’s definitely a place that I love visiting! I wouldn’t say I’ve “seen it” when it comes to this state. All my travels have been laser-focused on the Northwest corner, and always in May. The Ozark Mountains, Beaver Lake, Eureka Springs, Canoeing the Buffalo River; these are the things I’m familiar with! When I return, (and I will return!), it will most likely be to these same spots!

(For those of you wondering, the ‘s in Arkansas’s is grammatically correct! To read a ridiculous article on the subject, click here)

Just 5 miles east of Eureka Springs, Arkansas on Highway 62 lies an impressive scenic view of the White River and surrounding Ozark mountains. (Mountains? Hills? The jury is still out.) Either way, it’s definitely a place that you’ll want to pull off and get some pictures if you are in the area!!

This viewpoint sits atop a steep cliff with a 550-foot drop-off. As seen below, the White River forms a horseshoe bend below this spot, or as one article called it, “a perfect omega shape”.

I was surprised to find out that this area is a year-round nesting spot for American Bald Eagles! Apparently, late winter is the time to view these amazing birds! Check out the website if you want to learn more!

This is a unique stop along HWY-62’s course through the Ozarks. If you’ve driven through before, you know that it’s a very windy road with incredibly lush, thick foliage. Inspiration Point is one of the few spots that really opens up and lets you see for a long distance. If you’d like to read a little about the history of Inspiration Point, check out this website!
