Trading Camps: My Move to Colorado Springs

Well folks, you read right…I’m now living in Colorado Springs, CO!

Some of you who know me know I lived here for an eight-month stretch back in 2012-2013.  We were beyond broke and couldn’t afford to drive anywhere in the beautiful place we were living, so my husband took a job in Carlsbad, NM to work in the oilfields. Obviously, we were not thrilled about leaving Colorado.  Our plan back then was to move to Carlsbad, make a lot of money, and then move back to Colorado after about a year. Needless to say, that’s not quite how things panned out.

We got to Carlsbad, and after our stretch of living in a tent, we got into an RV, I started going to school for nursing, and we ended up living in Carlsbad/Artesia area for longer than anywhere else we ever lived. Let me reiterate that…we lived in Carlsbad, which we hated the most, for longer than we have lived anywhere else!!

I want you to do something for me…look at these pictures of the beautiful mountains of Colorado:

I think you will agree with me that there is no comparison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So back to the present.  We left Carlsbad/Artesia this last summer and moved to Silver City.  I was offered an internship, and my husband had several very promising, well-paying job opportunities.  It wasn’t the most exciting of options, but it was a very safe move, especially with me being a new grad. However, once we actually moved to the area, each and every “promising” job opportunity for my husband dried up and vanished. I mean, it almost seemed straight up malicious.

To make a long story short, we decided to move back to Colorado.

Because life is short.

And at the end of my life, I don’t think I’ll regret having adventures.

PS, for all those internet haters that say the “nursing shortage” is fictitious, all I have to say is this: It took literally 7 days to put my application in online, be fielded by recruiters, interviewed and hired. 7. days. I’m pretty sure the nursing shortage is a real thing.

So that’s my story. It happened faster than any move we’ve ever made, and we’ve made some pretty quick moves in the past, so that’s saying something! We both feel really glad that we came back. The weather has been great and I can’t wait to share all my adventures up here with y’all!

So stay posted! I’ll still be sharing NM adventures, because I still have a ton of things I haven’t posted about yet, but more awesome things are to come!

Leave me a comment!!

Until next time!

Oooh, congrats! Colorado Springs is hands down my favorite spot in this country!! From Manitou Springs to the amazingly gorgeous spots you can find behind random neighborhoods that happen to be public use, it’s like this random little slice of heaven in a massively overdeveloped and improperly used country. If you ever need to get really, really away and just spend some time in nature, there’s this area, (can’t remember if it’s BLM or national park), off of 24 in the Woodland Park area. It was my favorite place to get away when I needed to write and I’m sure it would make for some awesome nature walks.
Anyway, again I say congrats, and I totally agree with you, life is entirely too short and I can’t imagine you’ll ever regret this move!!!

Thanks!!! We had toyed around with the idea of moving to the Pagosa Springs/Durango area these last couple of years, but in the end we felt like the Colorado Springs area had more to offer for our long term goals! I’m so excited to explore more, I really didn’t get to explore much last time because I couldn’t afford the gas!!
