Colorado’s April Fools Joke…Welcome to Spring!

I have been very excited these last couple of weeks, because Spring has been in the air! The trees are starting to bud and the weather has been increasingly warmer – it even got up to the 80’s a couple of weekends ago! So imagine with me, if you will, my dismay when a blizzard rolled through Colorado Springs today!

It feels like some sick joke!

Of course “blizzard” is a little too strong a description for the snow we got, but I’ll put it to you this way – if this snow had happened in Dallas/Ft Worth they would have shut the whole city down, so you could say it was a decent little flurry!

It’s totally not uncommon for Colorado to have snowstorms into May and I’ve even heard June. Being from Texas (and proud of it!) I’m pretty much ready for shorts and tee shirt weather come April, so a snowstorm on April 1st is not my idea of spring! *sigh* You can take a girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl!

Despite my wish for hiking in a somewhat sunnier..drier…and perhaps warmer setting, my other half and I decided to make lemonade out of our lemons and play in the snow!  There’s an awesome canyon in Colorado Springs called North Cheyenne Canon Park that has a lot of hiking trails. It’s beautiful any time of year, so we knew it would be the best place in the city for our adventure!

So without further ado, here’s some of my pics of our Winter Wonderland…in April!

Between an undershirt, a sweatshirt, a hoodie and a jacket (and awesome hiking boots) I managed to stay pretty warm the whole time!

We followed the snow covered Columbine trail for quite a ways!

You can tell from the posts that we got several inches!

Come to find out that in the hour we were here, the road into the canyon had become closed at the entrance! Thank God for 4 wheel drive!

This is my dog…doesn’t she look so well-behaved??

This was my first time to really go hiking in the snow. If it had been windy I don’t think I would have enjoyed it. Luckily in the canyon there was no wind, and I stayed plenty warm, so all in all it was a fun experience! The snow just kept coming down, and everything was wonderfully still and quiet! Definitely a nice time!

How bout y’all???? Do y’all like hiking in the snow?? Have you been to North Cheyenne Canon Park?? It really is a great hiking spot!

Well folks, that’s all I’ve got for now!

Until next time!

Love the pics, doll face! And I am right there with you, I’m ready for shorts by this time of year, but around here we’ve still got spots with feet of snow leftover from the last Nor’easter that hit us…!
That said we did manage to get some grilling time in the other day and I was able to rock the fuzzy pj’s without leggings underneath, so, you know, for the win!!
And maybe one day we’ll get used to our respective climates that actually feature all four seasons… 😉
