Hiking in Ruidoso’s White Mountain Wilderness
Hello everyone!! I am excited to say that I finally bought a new computer after a year of going without!! I am so excited to be able to edit my photos again, although I will say that catching up on editing a years worth of photos has been a little taxing and time consuming! I’ve been going through a lot of my older photos and I’m starting to get nostalgic about some of my favorite places in Ruidoso, NM. I know people who are not from around there think New Mexico is just a flat, dusty, desert-y place…and that certainly can be true! However, there are truly a lot of beautiful…

Cloudcroft NM’s “Waterfall” Hike!
So, I know what you guys are thinking…”wow, the waterfall hike…what an original name!” That’s what I thought, anyway, when I saw the below sign as I was driving down the Sunspot Highway in Cloudcroft: Apparently, someone wasn’t having their most creative moment…but since I don’t think that I would’ve done much better, I’ll forgive them. So I’m not gonna lie to you and say that this is the most amazing hike or waterfall ever, BUT you are in beautiful Cloudcroft and it is a very short and sweet hike that would make a nice excursion! Directions: (from Cloudcroft/Hwy 82) At the end of town, right before you begin your descent down…

New Mexico’s Ghost Town of Mogollon
Hello Everyone!! Today’s post is sort of a follow up to my most recent post about New Mexico’s Catwalk. Now I know what you’re all wondering…how in the heck do you pronounce that word?????? Mogollon is pronounced Mogey-yone. Now, instead of looking like a fool for pronouncing it wrong, you can be the one making someone else look like a fool! Now that we got that out of the way, I can describe to you exactly why it is that you want to visit this place! Mogollon, NM lies in the Mogollon mountain range which is in the southwest corner of New Mexico. It lies a little over an hour and…

Visit the Catwalk in Southern New Mexico
Hello everyone! I know it’s been a long time, but a series of unfortunate events have kept me from writing these last several months….specifically the fact that my computer crashed in August. (The whole “I had a baby” thing didn’t help either!) However, I have recently joined the 21st century by getting a smartphone, so here we are!! Today’s post is about a lesser known place in Southern New Mexico called “The Catwalk” (near an equally lesser known town called Glenwood.) The Catwalk is about an hour and a half away from Silver City and makes a good destination for those wanting to make a day trip. The Catwalk is a…

New Mexico’s Roadside Attractions: Santa Fe’s Cross of the Martyrs
I’m gonna be Captain Obvious right now and say what everyone has surely been thinking…Sara, you need to get a wide angle lens. Period!! I’m glad we can be honest with each other. Now back to work! My Roadside Attraction & Oddity today is the Cross of the Martyrs in Santa Fe, NM. Have I ever told you guys I have a real love/hate thing going on with Santa Fe? Most of the time I feel like it’s more hate than love…but that’s another blog post for another time. I feel like maybe my attention span is a little short today. One thing I’ll give Santa Fe is that it’s…

Top 5 Things To Do at the Lodge in Cloudcroft, NM
So I know I live in Colorado now, but Cloudcroft, NM is and always will be one of my favorite mountain towns period!! It’s a tiny town that lies in the Sacramento Mountains in southern New Mexico, and it has an Old-West-style Historic Downtown along with beautiful scenery and tons of hiking! I literally couldn’t tell you how many times we came up here while living in the hell-hole that is Carlsbad NM…so I have to admit that I feel pretty familiar with it! Today I want to tell y’all about the Historic Lodge (officially called The Lodge Resort & Spa). I have never actually been a guest here, but…

Santa Fe’s 3 Must-See Historic Churches!
I pretty much have a love/hate relationship with Santa Fe, NM. In one breath I’ll tell you about how I hate the people because they can’t mind their own business (and how they were gonna call the cops on me for leaving my dog in the car for five minutes with the air conditioner on), and in the next breath I’ll tell you all the things that are worth seeing if you go. Like I said…Love/hate. One of the things I do like about Santa Fe is that it has a lot of history and an awesome Downtown area. The whole city is themed in the Pueblo/adobe-style architecture, so walking around the downtown shops,…

New Mexico’s Roadside Attractions: Smokey the Bear
As my husband and I were driving, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere, we happened upon a curious scene. You may wonder at what a random (but sturdy) cut out of Smokey the Bear is doing on the side of the road near Lincoln, NM. I wondered too…until I discovered the most amazing random fact! The mountains behind this cut-out is where the real Smokey the Bear was found over 50 years ago!! I’m sure many of you historically savvy people out there who read my blog already know all about the story of the real Smokey the Bear… but for those of you who don’t, below is a…

New Mexico’s Roadside Attractions: Cloudcroft’s Mexican Trestle
If you are driving from Alamogordo to Cloudcroft any time soon then you are sure to pass my Roadside attraction: The Cloudcroft Mexican Trestle! The Mexican trestle is a large part of Cloudcroft’s history. Every time I pass through here (and it’s actually pretty often) I always see people stopping to take their pics with the trestle in the background. After reading this article, YOU could be one of those people!! (To see what else there is to do in Cloudcroft, click here!) Directions: The trestle is located off HWY 82, right outside of Cloudcroft. It’s accessible going toward Cloudcroft. If you are coming from Cloudcroft, then drive slow and be prepared to make…

Hiking and Camping in NM’s Organ Mountains – What to Know!
So, this post is a bit of a throwback to my yesteryears! (slash, from 2012) I really wanted to make a post about it though, because it’s one of the few cool outdoor things there are to do in Las Cruces, NM. The Organ Mountains of Las Cruces, NM are pretty iconic for locals around the area. They have a lot of distinguishing character in my opinion, and I enjoyed seeing them every day for the 10 months that I lived there. When I lived in Cruces I was working an unholy amount, (I practically lived at Chili’s) and I didn’t feel like I got to do very much exploring of…
